As the momentum builds towards New York the focus shifts towards Jack’s fundraising event at the ILT Stadium Southland this Saturday, 29th July 2017.

The event kicks off at 6.30pm and it’s fair to say that it’s a showcase of musical talent featuring local musicians and an auction to raise money to help Jack achieve his dream.

Jack's good mate Brendon Pongia will be the nights MC.

A massive thanks goes to Rhonda Hoffman who has been the driving force behind the fundraiser.

    As the date draws closer the people and businesses of Invercargill are getting more and more generous and this page would like to pay tribute and say thanks to the following sponsors/businesses who have generously donated gifts/prizes/money to Jack in the last few months;

First of all this page would like to acknowledge Mitch Pereira.

Jack and Mitch were good and close friends and I know a day doesn't go by with Jack talking about Mitch.

Our thoughts, sympathies and condolences go out to Mitch's family and friends.

Jack's made no secret of it that he's doing this for Mitch.

    Big love to ya mate.

The support and generosity of the Invercargill public and business community is overwhelming.

A big thank you to the Invercargill branch of The Warehouse for the donation of prizes for the recent Easter egg raffle.

Jack, Debbie and a couple of 'hangers on' spent 2 days selling raffles at The Warehouse.

Drawing the winners was a lengthy process but not as bad as delivering the lucky winners their respective prizes which Jack had great pleasure in doing.

Another big thanks goes out to Carolyn Nutsford at Voyant.

Carolyn has generously given Jack a personalised Huffer vest.

This will certainly keep the chill off during the winter months and whatever New York throws at Jack.

As we all know Jack enjoys a great profile in Invercargill.

Once a week on Radio Southland Jack hosts his own sports show and now he's on the 'lucrative' speaking circuit having been a keynote speaker to the Rotary and the Southland Women's Group.

Jack's training is going gang busters.

Jack's pushing himself and he's now knocking out daily 20km rides.

If you see Jack out and about whether he's at the gym, on his hand cycle or up town in his wheelchair stop say g'day and give him some encouragement,

We've still got a wee way to go but knowing that times on our side we should hopefully achieve our goal.

To all of you who have already generously donated thank you.

To those of you who haven't feel free to help Jack achieve his dream.

And to our sponsors to date; Daryl Spence at Mike Pero Real Estate, The Warehouse, Nick Olde-Olthof at Elite Custom HiFi, Carolyn Nutsford at Voyant and Toni Biddle Travel Agent thank for all your support.

Please support the people who have supported Jack.

The page and myself have been a bit quiet over the last two weeks.

Having said that Jack has been anything but quiet.

If he's not attending the Southland Entertainer of the Year Awards he's at the gym training hard and continually beating his previous best times and distance.

A big thanks goes out to Nick Olde Olthof at Elite Custom Hi Fi for hooking up Jack and his step father Greg with a pair of sweet Bluetooth headphones which they'll use when the complete the New York Marathon.

Last week Jack, Debbie and Greg picked up their flight tickets and another big thanks goes out to Toni Biddle.

With the Marathon entry confirmed and flights booked and paid for, Jacks dream is now a reality.

According to Jack there's only 280 odd days to go before they all fly out.

Since completing the recent Surf to City Jack's became a bit of a media star and has been inundated with interviews and photos.

If his photo isn't gracing the pages of the Southland Times and Southland Express or smoozing with sponsors he's getting his photo with the Vodafone Warriors.

Having said that despite all these 'distractions' Jack's still managing to put the hours in training.

Over the weekend Jack caught up with local identity and avid runner Allan Dyer.

During the meeting Allan presented Jack with the t'shirt and cap he was given prior to competing in the 1992 New York Marathon. It's fair to say that Jack has the affect on a lot of people and to date we're all very grateful for the donations that have been received.

Let's all play our part to make Jack's dream a reality and give generously.

    It's been a massive week.

As you can see the donations are rolling in and I want to thank all of you who have generously donated.

I want to say a massive thanks to Daryl Spence at Mike Pero Real Estate Invercargill for the very generous donation of $2000.

We've still got a wee way to go but times on our side.

Yesterday morning Jack and his support crew completed the Invercargill Surf to City fun run.

Wearing their sponsored Mike Pero Real Estate t'shirts they set off on the 12kms from Oreti Beach and into town.

Halfway along Dunns Road and in Jack's words "I left them for dead" Jack left his support crew behind and powered on.

A short time later and with a little help from the Southland Stags Jack pushed on making his way towards Queens Park where he finished in style.

Jack enjoyed massive support and encouragement before, during and after the event from the other participants and onlookers.

Understandably today has been a rest day for Jack, but having said that he's been busy meeting with sponsors and arranging up coming media interviews.
